We have really enjoyed our PLANTS topic so far, particularly our visit to Beningbrough Hall. This week, we will be collecting data to verify a statement about plants, as well as investigating what we need to help a plant grow healthily.
Things that go BUMP in the night: Summer 2
This week we will be researching fictional characters such as vampires, bogeymen, witches, ghosts and werewolves. Of course we know these are all made up and to prove it we will be looking at some 'famous' examples in literature, film and television.
Maths will focus around number 'fact families' and using the inverse operations to check calculations. There will also be lots of measuring going on as we prepare for our spooky banquet on Friday.
The Great Fire of London: Summer 1
Well done if you guess that it was the Great Fire of London! The children have already been finding out about Thomas Farriner, Samuel Pepys and the events started at the baker's shop on Pudding Lane in 1666.
'Picture Books and Paintings': Summer One
Last week the children continued their topic on 'Anthony Browne'. They gathered data about their class' favourite Anthony Browne book and used ICT software to create a bar chart to represent the information. They also re-wrote the story of The Tunnel in their own style.
This week they will be creating their own middle and ending to a given story start, as well as writing a recount based upon a famous painting represented in one of Anthony Browne's books.
In maths the children will be subtracting numbers and answering word problems using both addition and subtraction. They should also continue to practice their doubling and halving to improve their speed grid skills! In PE we will continue to build on our gymnastic and game skills. Please make sure that your child has comfortable footwear for outdoor sessions and that their kit is in school for their class' PE days.
This half term we will be learning about the importance of eating a balanced and healthy diet. We will be looking at how the food we eat has changed over time and how the methods we use to prepare and cook it have also progressed. Food packaging will be the focus for our World Book Day celebrations and our DT project for this PLOD will link to the 'flap books' we will be reading in Literacy.
Please find some time to take a look at the following resources.
