Miss Welch

Welcome to 3/ 4 Blue where we share photos, videos and information of the exciting and fun things we have been learning about in school!

A French Christmas:

Singing French carols in 3/ 4 Blue. We even had small conversations in French. Thank you for teaching us, Madame Ramsden!

Christmas party day!

Super Sixties Day:
We had so much fun dressing up for our Super Sixties day! Here we are showing off our fabulous outfits!

L.S Lowry watercolour paintings:

We learnt about the industrial revolution and studied the famous 20th century artist L.S. Lowry. We listened to the song Matchstick Men and Matchstick Cats and Dogs, which was written as a tribute to him. We looked carefully at the style of Lowry's paintings and talked about perspective, including the foreground, middle ground and background. We used watercolour and recreated some of his most famous works of art. We are very proud of our paintings!

The Samba:

We learnt where in the world cacao trees are grown and Brazil is the world's fifth largest chocolate producing country! We learnt about the Samba and composed our own piece of music using percussion instruments!

From Bean to Bar:

Our topic this term is Chocolate! Here we are learning about the process of 'Bean to Bar.'

The Digestive System:

In science this term, we learnt all about the digestive system and we had lots of fun practically demonstrating the process of how your food turns into poo!

1. First, we used scissors and chopped pieces of bread into small parts to represent our teeth cutting up our food.

2. Next, we mixed the bread with water (representing the saliva in our mouth) in a sandwich bag to create our 'bolus.'

3. After that, we poured in some coke to represent how stomach acid breaks our food down and splits up the proteins from our food.

4. We used tights to demonstrate how your food travels first through the small intestine which absorbs the nutrients and then through the large intestine that absorbs the water.

5. Finally, we squeezed out our poo through our 'anus!'

Chocolate topic display board:

We are very proud of our Topic display. Feeling inspired by our whole class reader 'Charlie and the Chocolate factory,' we studied the illustrator Quentin Blake. We discussed his cartoon like drawings and we practised our observational drawing skills by copying some of his illustrations from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
