British Values

At Headlands we uphold and teach pupils about the British Values as directed under the Ofsted Guidance published in September 2022:

'Schools are crucial in preparing pupils for their adult lives, teaching them to understand how to engage with society and providing them with plentiful opportunities to do so ... through the curriculum, assemblies, wider opportunities, visits, discussions and literature, develops and deepens pupils’ understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law, and mutual respect and tolerance'

Teaching British Values at Headlands

British values have been defined as:

  • Respect for democracy and support for participation in the democratic process. (Democracy)

  • Respect for the basis on which the law is made and applies in England.  (The Rule of Law)

  • Individual liberty, support and respect for the liberties of all within the law. (Individual Liberty)

  • Mutual respect for and tolerance of different cultures, faiths and other beliefs. (Respect and Tolerance)

At Headlands Primary School, our focus on the 6 key values of:

Respect; Independence; Aspiration; Resilience; Empathy and Kindness and Creativity, support us in promoting British Values, as there is a clear and fundamental link between them.

The links below show how we seek to actively promote British Values in our school.
